A summary of the technologies used in the current solutions that represent the "state of the art" as well as trends in the relevant literature
It is important to understand what is believed to be the most current view of the State of the Art in the field and what is being worked on now which is likely to be what your future solution will compete against. This is really important since oftentimes innovations are ahead of the curve and innovators need a plan to show how their innovation will have benefits over the ways of doing things in the near future.
Based on a review of the "best" or most accepted existing solutions as well as R&D trends, the underlying technologies and principles on which they are based is described a reference
