The Healthcare Innovation Cycle is based on CIMIT's experience supporting more than 600 projects over its 20-year history.
It was developed to guide and monitor the development of healthcare innovations with the goal of helping teams maximize the likelihood of innovations reaching and helping the most patients. Paralleling the DoD’s well-established Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs), it establishes a sequence of healthcare specific milestones as a roadmap to guide teams as they navigate the complex journey of healthcare innovation. Each milestone is defined by a core set of deliverables in four critical healthcare domains: Clinical, Market/Business, Regulatory/Approvals, and Technology. As shown below, the Healthcare Innovation Cycle serves as the foundation of the Guidance and Impact Tracking System (GAITS).
GAITS is an online platform that enables teams and portfolio managers to put the experiences of others in navigating the journey of healthcare innovation into action.
